Ricardo Causarás Casaña

Ricardo Causarás Casaña (Valencia, 1875 – Barcelona, 1953) was a Spanish sculptor and aeronautical pioneer.
Biography
Ricardo Causarás first enrolled in the "Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos" of Valencia in 1886, at the age of 11.
In 1905 he traveled to Paris (France), where he worked for a year as a modernist sculptor and painter.
In 1908 he was appointed Representative and Vice-Secretary of the Exhibitions Section of the Círculo de Bellas Artes for the "Exposición Regional Valenciana y Nacional" of 1909 to 1910.
Ricardo Causarás Casaña was also Acting Director, in 1935, of the School of Arts and Artistic Crafts and Fine Arts Casa Llotja of Barcelona.
Inventions
Causarás Casaña had a sculpture and aircraft-building workshop in the Barrio del Carmen of Valencia, and from 1918 onward he continued inventing and building industrial machines for his own private and professional use, such as a magnifying glass, a photographic camera, a crystal radio, and a cigarette-rolling machine.
He was the inventor of the famous "Arte en Paracera de la Muñeca Parisién," a mannequin designed to wear the fashion of the period, in which Causarás applied his experience as a teacher of sculptural modeling and casting, advanced artistic drawing, and decorative sculptural composition.
"Causarás" Aeroplane-Monoplane

On July 20, 1909, in Valencia, Ricardo Causarás Casaña applied for patent of invention no. 46,026 for his aeronautical invention, named the "Causarás" Aeroplane-Monoplane. This aircraft was built and flown in Valencia and Paterna, with a futuristic geometric and aerodynamic design, triangular in shape, with a rigid aeronautical delta wing in the lifting surfaces and the cockpit, one engine, two propellers, and lateral and longitudinal stability.
The prototype aircraft measured 1.50 m in length by 1.06 m in wingspan with engine, and was flown by the catapult system from the very top of the optical signal tower attached to the upper part of the Arab Tower of Paterna (Valencia), a military installation of the Barracks of the Mounted Artillery Regiment.
The aircraft was ahead of its time with respect to aircraft with similar designs, such as the "Rogallo delta wing" built and patented by the North American aeronautical engineers of NASA in 1948, the German and North American military aircraft "XB70-Valkyrie," the Anglo-French consortium aircraft "Bac Concorde," the Russian military and civil aircraft "Tupolev TU-144," the North American military aircraft "F117A-Nighthawk" and the "B-2 Stealth Spirit Bomber," and even NASA's Space Shuttles, as well as the current Spanish and North American spy aircraft of the UAV and UCAV series.
The patent of invention for the "Causarás" Aeroplane-Monoplane is currently deposited in the Historical Archives and Museum in Madrid of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade of the Government of Spain.
