Hispanopedia:Shortcut

From Hispanopedia

A shortcut is a redirect with a short title that leads to a project, help or category page, or to one of its sections. It can be typed in the search box, linked from an article or a comment, or used to form a shorter web address.

Use

For example, "HP:CCBYSA" is the shortcut for "Hispanopedia:Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License Text". You can write [[HP:CCBYSA]] on any page, or open https://en.hispanopedia.com/wiki/HP:CCBYSA in the browser, and you reach that page.

How they are formed

A shortcut has two parts separated by a colon: an abbreviation for the namespace of the target and a short name, in capital letters. On Hispanopedia the abbreviations are not automatic: each shortcut is a redirect page created by hand in the main namespace, so only the ones somebody has created work.

Today only shortcuts with the HP abbreviation exist. To be easy to remember, a shortcut uses capital letters and, where possible, five letters or fewer.

Creating a shortcut

  1. Create the page with the shortcut as its title (for example "HP:CCBYSA") with the content #REDIRECT [[Hispanopedia:Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License Text]].
  2. Add the template {{Shortcut|HP:CCBYSA}} to the target page, or update it if it is already there, so the shortcut is visible in the "Shortcut" box.

Interwiki prefixes work in a similar way to link other projects and are written in lower case: for example, [[commons:Main Page]] opens the main page of Wikimedia Commons. Between the two editions of Hispanopedia, hpes: links the Spanish edition from the English one and hpen: the English edition from the Spanish one; those two links are not shown in the text but in the "In other languages" box.
