Hispanopedia:Redirect
From Hispanopedia
A redirect is a page that, when opened, automatically leads to another one. It lets an alternative title (a variant of the name, an old spelling, an abbreviation or a shortcut) lead to the page it belongs to.
How to create one
The redirect page has a single line:
#REDIRECT [[Target title]]
It can point to a specific section: #REDIRECT [[Target title#Section]].
How it is shown and edited
When you open a redirect you reach the target and, below the title, "Redirected from" appears with a link to the redirect. To view or edit the redirect itself, open that link or add ?redirect=no to the address.
Rules
- A redirect always points to a page that exists; if the target is moved or deleted, the redirect has to be corrected.
- They are not chained: a redirect to another redirect (a double redirect) does not work, it has to point directly to the final target.
- When a page is moved, the software leaves a redirect at the old title so that links do not break.
